Dive trip Costa Brava
Stay, Diving holidays in Spain, on the Costa Brava
There's no need to fly long distances, no need for tiring time differences... ecological tourism awaits you within reach of your fins! By bus, train, or car sharing, reach the French-Spanish border in no time! Take the motorway through Perpignan to Barcelona or take the train to Figueres. A diving holiday on the Costa Brava, along the Catalan coastline, will enchant you, combining the discovery of a strong cultural identity with the underwater and land riches of the Mediterranean. Here the Costa Brava is sumptuously wild, with vineyards, small mountains such as the Serra de Rodes, coves, creeks, and pebbled beaches, some of which are very secluded, accessible only by sea. Pleasure boats and divers always find places sheltered from the wind to take shelter. The base of the cliffs and islands are full of caves and crevices to explore underwater.
The Cap de Creus marine reserve has been in effect since 1998, starting at the small town of El Puerto de la Selva and extending to Roses and Empuriabrava, including the sites of Cadaques, Cala Joncols, and Cala Montjoi. The best diving conditions are from April to September. Boats from the diving centers of Banyuls-Sur-Mer, Cerbère, and Port Bou spend the day north of Cap Creus. During your diving holiday on the Costa Brava, as a couple, with friends, family, or in a group, discover 40 dive sites along the coastline, around islands and islets, such as Formigues, and Ullastres. You can also explore the El Marmoler and Boreas wrecks here, which you can reach from L'Escala. The large size of the area allows dive center boats to spread out over the sites. Protected in 1983 by the Montgrí, Medes Islands, and Baix Ter Natural Park, the Medes archipelago is located off the coast of L'Estartit. Here you can make the dives of your dreams, exploring a huge tunnel guarded by a beautiful dolphin statue. Large black groupers follow you like little dogs.
You can choose to dive from the boat or from the shore during the half day. If you are a large group, don't hesitate to ask for the group diving formula. Some good tips for booking your diving holiday on the Costa Brava. In L'Escala, accommodation at Camping Illa Mateua allows you to walk across the road to Mateua Dive. Amidst the olive trees and with the song of the cicadas, a break at Cala Joncols, at the Hotel Cala Joncols is ideal for diving in the Euro divers center. With family or friends, opt for a diving holiday at the holiday village of Cala Montjoi with its own diving center. The lively life of L'Estartit, the excellent value for money of the Medes II hotel, and the professionalism of the Unisub diving center guarantee you a great holiday in Spain. In Palamos, you will also be delighted by the nice little restaurants where you can enjoy excellent shrimp, the cozy comfort of the Marina Hotel, and the tek and leisure training at the Gidive diving center. Non-divers can enjoy hiking and mountain biking in the mountains, kayaking, paddling and snorkeling along the coastline, as well as lazing on the beautiful sandy beaches. Depending on the accommodation chosen, for 2 nights, with 2 people doing 6 dives, if you have your own equipment, your budget is 340 euros (without travel) from May to September.

Dive sites
The Medes are very popular with pleasure boats, snorkelers and divers, and are regulated by the owners of the centres, who help each other and agree to protect their diving area. Also, what you need to know for your diving holiday in L'Estartit is that, out of a package of 10 dives bought during the high tourist season, you will only do 5 dives in the Medes Islands, the other 5 dives will be done along the coast. In the low season, if all the dive boats do not go out to sea at the same time, then you will be able to do more dives in the area of your interest. A common filling station for 5 dive centres, located on the main diver embarkation dock, allows air, nitrox and trimix to be loaded directly onto the boats with a pallet truck, for greater efficiency and less effort.
The advantage of your diving holiday in Cala Joncols or Cala Monjoi? The best dive sites in Cap Creus are accessible to both beginners and advanced divers in a short time. Indeed, only the depth varies from a few metres to several dozen metres on the same dive spot. In spring and summer, expect good visibility underwater and easy orientation along the slopes of the drop-offs. Experienced divers and tek divers can easily access caves or deep wrecks where groupers, barracudas and corbs live together. The spots of Cap Creus are also perfect for snorkelling and free diving or for an introduction to diving with a PADI Discover Scuba Diver.
Others Activities
Your stay on the Costa Brava can be akin to eco-tourism. This is the time to challenge yourself in a sea kayak along a magnificent coastline (beware of winds and currents)! Snorkelling is recommended along the shoreline, which is colonised by shoals of dorado in the posidonia fields and above the gravelly bottom, in shallow water. Do not venture down the cliffs of Cap Creus from the footpaths as rock falls are common in some areas. When the Tramontana is blowing, opt for the walking option with some lovely hikes and mountain bike rides along the coastal paths. For the more adventurous, take a paragliding flight from the Serra de Rodes mountain from the San Salvador take-off area and, after a beautiful flight, land on the beach.
