Are you planning a diving trip with friends or family? Imagine a small lakeside town with ochre and white houses and bougainvillea gardens surrounded by the desert. El Gouna will seduce you with its inlets, canals, and lagoons, which surround the hotels, the golf course, and the fitness centers... A lot of charm in this small town created by Samir Sawiris in the 90s and managed by Orascom, 20 km north of Hurghada. Moreover, expatriates have not been mistaken to settle here because it is a good place to live, with squares surrounded by ochre and pink colored houses, restaurants offering a range of different cuisines, marinas where the latest motor yachts compete with streamlined shapes and sparkling stainless steel.

You can walk here at any time of the day or night. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, in a quiet and safe place. There is nightly entertainment at the Abu Tig Marina and even if you have chosen a half-board package in your hotel, depending on the agreements between the restaurant owners, you can dine by the water in the evening in the marina. On the diving side, take advantage of El Gouna's diving spots, much less frequented than from Hurghada, with drop-offs, wrecks, and coral gardens tumbling over white sand. Here you will explore one of the most beautiful wrecks in the world, the Thistlegorm, which lies in the Gubal Strait. For wreck diving enthusiasts, visit the Sha'ab Abu Nuhas reef where four ships, the Giannis D, the Carnatic, the Chrisoula K, and the Kimon, have run aground.

Your diving holiday in El Gouna takes place in dive centres where the instructors speak several languages... so certainly yours! The dive sites are quite far from the coast and are only accessible by boat. Two dives per day are planned with lunch on board the boat. When there is space, non-diving companions are welcome on board. The centres' minibuses will pick you up at the hotel at 8 am and return you to the hotel by 4 pm. They can also organise your transfers to and from the airport with the delivery of your visa in bond. Beginner divers, blow your first bubbles at Sha'ab aha, a shallow spot rich in hard and soft corals, where turtles and groupers frolic.

Underwater photographers will get great shots of the schools of puffer and butterflyfish in the coral garden at Poseidon Garden. Experienced divers like to meet up with other divers at Bluff Point on the northeast side of Gubal Island for a memorable drift dive with occasional eagle rays and tuna. They will also enjoy the coral garden at Um Usk, with blue-spotted stingrays in the sand and giant moray eels in the holes. Sometimes special trips for experienced divers are organised by some centres in the Gubal Strait to explore wrecks including the Thistlegorm. These wrecks, and in particular the Rosalie Moller, are also accessible by liveaboard diving.

For Red Sea wildlife lovers, go snorkelling with spinner dolphins at Sha'ab El Erg, a huge horseshoe-shaped reef off El Gouna. Stand in the path of the dolphins as they swim in and out of the lagoon for a better view. Carless Reef is also a place where you can imagine all kinds of encounters, including sharks... Take advantage of being in El Gouna to do your first dive or to get a PADI or CMAS diving certification, from Discover Scuba Diver to OWSI Instructor level. SSI and PADI certifications are available in El Gouna for drift diving, nitrox diving, and night diving.
