Dive sites

During your diving holiday in La Ciotat and Saint Cyr-Les-Lecques, you will quickly distinguish four diving areas. Some dive sites are located in the middle of the bay of La Ciotat such as Pilotine, Les Ancres, Fortier, La Rague, and especially the wreck of a plane which remains the supreme attraction of the bay. The P38 Lichtning is a fighter plane used during the Second World War by the US Air Force. The pilot survived the enemy fire and the wreckage. The plane now lies on its back on a 38-meter bottom. To be seen: conger eels in the landing gear and lobsters under the metal sheets.

Other sites are located around the Ile Verte, at the exit of the port of La Ciotat. Beautiful drop-offs are covered with gorgonians and crossed by schools of snappers. In the crevices, observe beautiful branches of red coral. Some of the drop-offs, such as the Rosiers and the very popular Bec de l'Aigle coralligenous drop-off, drop down to 40 meters. In its crevices, look for red coral and crustaceans. Explore the rocky outcrops such as Pain de Sucre with gorgonians and Saint-Pierre; Pierre du Jas, a rocky pyramid 20 meters high, inhabited by lobsters.

At La Pierre à Rousteau, a rock starting at 14 meters and dropping to 50 meters, there are schools of drum sars. The Pierre Sans Nom starts at 30 meters and ends at 50 meters where a school of barracudas swirls around. Take a leisurely stroll to the Barancan, another rocky inlet starting at 16 meters and ending at 40 meters, with colorful crevices lined with red coral and yellow sponges. Doris Dalmatian-type nudibranchs can be seen on this dive spot.

Also travel to shallows such as the Pierre du Levant, a very large submerged ridge. The Beacon signals a rocky rise to 4 meters below the surface. It is located in the pass formed by the Bec de l'Aigle and the coast. To see: cuttlefish, galatheas, and seahorses. Meet at Gameou, which is located in front of a small cove that is difficult to access from the coast. The boat is therefore anchored in the middle of the cove, on an isolated rock. Moray eels, octopuses but also... a motorbike wreck! On the other side of this same cove, there is the "Trou du Diable", a half-submerged cave. The Calanques are an inexhaustible playground for those who love water!

For example, the 20-meter deep Calanque d'Isserot is also known as La Calanque au canon, because a cannon once stationed on the Ile Verte has fallen into the water at the bottom of the cliff. Discover it lying in 6 meters of water. At the tip of the Calanque d'Isserot, walk underwater along a small wall, the Petit Moure, where barracudas swim. It continues with the Grand Moure, which drops further down to 44 meters. To see: coral, groupers and mostelles. The Calanque de Seynerolles is enclosed in the Ile Verte with, at the bottom, a tunnel with walls covered with yellow anemones. The Lecques Aquanaut diving center is located in the new port of Les Lecques, in front of a huge car park. Open all year round, you will benefit from beautiful and comfortable facilities, ideal for groups of divers with changing rooms equipped with hot showers, toilets, a classroom equipped for training with a computer. The shop allows you to stock up on any small equipment you may be missing. The air in the filling station is checked. The diving school offers ANMP and PADI training courses from baptism to divemaster. About 50 adult and children's equipment are renewed every two years. Park near the Aquanaut and H2O boats, 30 m away, to unload your personal equipment directly. The boats are also suitable for groups, with capacities of 19 and 29 divers respectively. Board the Lecques Aquanaut boats to explore the dive sites of Bandol and La Ciotat. The former owner of the Lecques Aquanaut diving club, Marcel Camilleri, thought he had found St Exupery's little plane. The wreck of a P-38 Lightning lies upside down on a sandy bottom. This American twin-engine plane is literally covered with fishing nets. Later, divers and experts made the connection with another P-38 lying in the bay of La Ciotat. This one was shot down in the same conditions, the same day, only a few minutes apart! The two wrecks are part of the same Fighter-Group squadron and are separated by 3 nautical miles. [+]
