Snorkel with large, nonchalant turtles grazing on seagrass. Every little cove along the coastline, called a Marsa, such as Marsa Murain, Marsa Shuna Kebir, Marsa Shuna Seghir, Marsa Abu Dabbab, Marsa Hermez, is a starting point for a quiet underwater walk. Look out for seahorses hanging by their tails from the grass. A small Red Sea coral fauna with triggerfish, parrotfish, and blue-spotted rays swirl around. Then you will discover the reefs Sharm Abu Dabbab, Shaab El Nabaa, also called Nelson Reef, where you will surely come across schools of fusiliers and surgeonfish.

Discover Port Ghalib's most popular dive site, the 6 large reefs of Abu Dabbab, with their beautiful coral gardens, columns, and drop-offs. Here become a PADI Underwater Naturalist by taking courses with your PADI OWSI instructor. While in Port Galip, explore Elphinstone Reef, also known as Sha'ab Abu Hamra, located about 12 kilometers offshore, one of the best diving spots in the Red Sea. Known for its Arch opening under the southern shelf at a depth of 55 meters and for its northern shelf which is a shark observatory at a depth of 40 meters, Elphinstone is renowned for its longfin shark sightings. Why is it called Elphinstone? For the record, this English name was given to it in 1830 by British Captain Robert Moresby when he mapped the Red Sea for the British East India Company, in honor of Lord John Elphinstone, a Scottish baron who was governor of Bombay and Madras!
