Scuba diving France

Diving holidays and stays in France

Prime tourist destination in the world, France seduces its gastronomy, its terroir, and its excellent wines. With its 6000km coastline and three seafronts - to the north, the English Channel and the North Sea, to the west, the Atlantic and the south, the Mediterranean Sea - scuba diving is not to be underestimated! It is in its waters and more particularly in the creeks near Marseille that the famous commander Cousteau discovered his passion for the sea.

Your dive trip in France will not have the same taste depending on the region you choose. In the Mediterranean, diving in the Var allows you to explore sumptuous wrecks such as the Donator, the Ruby, and Togo. On the Eastern Pyrenees side, Alice Robert, Astrée, Saumur, and Saint Lucien are also part of history. Discover the many dive sites of the French Riviera, composed of drop-offs covered with gorgonians and full of groupers. Not far from the French Riviera, enjoy the beautiful natural reserves of Corsica and its abundant marine life.

Scuba diving in the Glénan Islands and on the West Coast takes you into an emerald green underwater world, with kelp fields, milky visibility, and an incredibly present fauna. Expect a real kaleidoscope of different landscapes. In Normandy, shipwrecks become rich artificial reefs home to velvet crab, edible crab, pout, brittle stars. And, good news, you don't need to be an expert diver to explore them: they are generally accessible within 25m!

Do you dream of traveling? Check out the conditions for entering this country on the Fit for Travel website!

Best dive season

The best time to dive in France is in summer, from June to August. August is the most touristy month in the Atlantic, as well as in the Mediterranean. The season on the Atlantic side is ideal from June to September, with a water temperature of 14 to 16°C. You should bring a 5 or 7mm wetsuit or a semi-dry suit. The season on the Mediterranean side is from April to November. The water temperature varies from 17 to 25°C. A 5.5mm wetsuit may, therefore, be sufficient during the summer season. Some dive centers are open all year round. It is then possible to dive in a 7mm wetsuit, semi-dry or dry, the rest of the year.

Other activities

Take advantage of a dive trip in France to stopover in Paris and visit the many world-famous monuments: the Eiffel Tower, the Château de Versailles, the Arc de Triomphe de l'Etoile and the Louvre Museum.
