You don't often hear about Huahine, a high island emerging from the Pacific Ocean in the Society Archipelago, as a dive destination.
And with good reason, because Huahine, 167 km from Tahiti, is a secret, pleasant and quiet place, with 2 peninsulas connected by a narrow isthmus, surmounted by two mountain massifs, Huahine Nui and Huahine Iti and separated by two beautiful bays, Maroe and Bourayne.
The animation is mainly located in Fare, the main town of Huahine Nui, where you will certainly pass by.

The island seems mysterious, with its two volcanoes, Pohue Rahi and Mount Turi, at an altitude of 500 and 700 m, which are covered by a beautiful tropical rainforest, very exuberant.
In the middle of this vegetation, we can see, in places, vanilla plantations; or melon and watermelon crops on the Motus; or copra drying on sandy beaches.
As fishing is practiced in this area, the sea bed is relatively preserved. Along some of the slopes of Huahine, the coral reef even emerges from the surface of the water.

During your diving holidays in Huahine, you will meet a varied fauna including pelagics.
Because of the 350 species of sharks (Ma'o) existing in the world,19 are observed in Polynesia. And in the Avapehi Pass, grey sharks or raira sharks (carcharhinus amblyrhynchos) reproduce taking advantage of the current coming from the south-west swell.
You will also see here white tip sharks and blacktip sharks or ma'o mauri (carcharhinus melanopterus). Sometimes, nice surprises arrive when you don't expect them with lemon or arava sharks (negaprion acutidens) and hammerhead sharks or ma'o tuamata (sphyrna lewini and sphyrna mokarran).
Even if Huahiné is not a destination where you only dive with sharks, you leave your diving trip with serenity and full of beautiful images in your head!

Several nice dives are to be done in Huahiné including those of the Arches.We drop from 6 m to 30 m, and we arrive at a stone arch under which we pass. As soon as we get out of it, we enter a large cave from where the rays of light arrive through crevices.Then another cave opens, colonized by hatchet fish. As soon as we come out of it, at 40 m, we find ourselves in front of a drop-off that we have to follow to get to a rocky enclave. On the way back to the boat, we admire 2 other arches, 30 m deep.The Fitii drop-off is accessible by all levels of divers, up to 20 m. Take a lamp with you to snoop in the holes and observe a small colorful fauna.

A walk at L'Ancre d'Avapehi is done between 9 and 27 m, along a drop-off of the south reef where you can see turtles, green moray eels and schools of bigeye trevally.A sandy bottom separates the southern and northern reef of Avapehi Pass. A multitude of heterocongers gushes out of the sand and twist in the current to disappear immediately as you approach.Stingrays rise on your arrival and settle heavily in a cloud of sand a little further away. Near the pass, there is a parade of barracudas, paddlefish and leopard rays.

Indulge yourself in the Avapehi Pass, bordered by a reef covered with corals full of vitality. As you follow the gently sloping sandy bottom from 15 m to 26 m, you'll come across dog-toothed tuna, leopard ray flights and big-eyed trevallies in the middle of the marauding waters. Then we find the boat in the lagoon, at a shallow depth.These sharks, essential to the Pacific ecosystem, are protected in Polynesia. Located at the top of the food chain, these scavenging predators regulate the fish population and cleanse the sea of diseased fauna. Globally, they are in danger due to overfishing, a victim of those who seek their fins, and pollution.

Pacific Blue Adventure Dive Centre is located on the quay of the main village Fare, Huahine, Polynesia, close to the airport, shops, restaurants, guesthouses, and hotels. Meet us for sea trips at 9 am and 11 am with 2 dives per day. Free transfers are made at your request, from your accommodation in Huahine to the boat, with an air-conditioned vehicle. Interested in a private outing? Book it in advance. The Pacific Blue Adventure training center offers FFESSM, PADI, and SSI courses. Board an aluminum boat with a capacity of 12 divers. You can reach the dive sites quickly and comfortably in 10 to 30 minutes. The sites are selected according to the level of the divers, however, the reef or Avapeihi Pass is the most popular. From August to October, take part in the humpback whale count in Polynesian waters for three afternoons per week. The briefing takes place at the Maitai Lapita bar and 10 people then board the boat for a 3-hour trip, including a nice walk along the reef. [+]
