Tetiaroa is a no man's land, a parenthesis that one offers oneself in daily life, a little sweetness to let oneself go in a confidential place.
A diving holiday in Tetiaroa, in the Windward Islands, within the Society Archipelago, can only be enjoyed in The Brando Hotel, located on the main motu, Onetahi, with the village and the 531 m long airstrip.
The private island Tetiaroa, located 50 km from Tahiti, consists of a ribbon of 13 motu (islets) of different sizes, so close to each other that one could almost walk from one to the other.
Walking on these motu, one discovers that each one is different, with some of them having small temples, the mara'e.

In the south, Reiono is covered with a Polynesian primary forest. Oroatera is characterized by a lake of brackish water. A small bay forming a lagoon serves as a nursery for juvenile sharks.
On the Motu Ai'e, grey-backed terns can be observed nesting there. Tahuna Iti, the bird island, is a bird reserve.
The topography of the 2 motus, One and Tahuna Iti, in the shape of a horseshoe, presents an interior lagoon, favorable to the development of juvenile sharks.
The Tetiaroa lagoon, 7 km wide and 30 m deep, is sumptuous. The atoll has no natural passageway to the Pacific Ocean.
Access to the sea is by a small boat and it takes a good pilot to cross the reef!

Divers, snorkelers, and freedivers marvel at the rich fauna of Tetiaroa's waters with 167 species of fish, from parrotfish to eagle rays and blacktip sharks.
Offshore, whales can also be seen seasonally from mid-July to mid-October when they migrate to the warm Polynesian waters to mate and give birth. Diving activities stop there to make way for cetacean observation during this period.
Often, dolphins jump in front of the reef or spin in the bow wave of the boat.
As you can see here, this is a place where you can observe nature up close, in luxurious accommodation but where you feel at home and diving is not the ultimate goal of the stay, but only a pleasant way to discover the underwater world.

Let's face it, a diving trip to Tetiaroa is a whole. You don't come here just to dive but to discover the Polynesian fauna and flora on the surface and underwater, in a very pleasant and relaxing context.
The dives in the lagoon are easy, with a very colorful coral fauna and many sea turtles (Honu), some of which come to lay their eggs on the beaches of Tetiaroa, in the sand, under the trees, during the nesting season.

You will come across two types of turtles on the dive sites. The green turtle (chelonia mydas) which measures up to 1.50 meters and weighs up to 200 kg. It likes the meadows around the motus of Tétiaora.
The hawksbill turtle (eretmochelys imbricata), which is smaller, reaching a height of 90 cm for a weight of 90 kg. It is looking for sponges to feed so wait for it near its snack!

As these sea turtles are oviparous, they need peace and quiet to come and lay their eggs on the beaches. In many places in the world, they have been dislodged due to human activities as well as fishing, hunting, and the presence of predators such as dogs.
In Tetiaroa, these marine turtles live in peace, underwater, and on the beaches. They are easily seen in snorkeling.
