The plane that takes you to Rangiroa, stops in Tikehau which is about 15 kilometers away. So why don't you stop there? You will certainly arrive in Tuherahera, the main village on the south side of the atoll, close to the airfield.
This pink sand island, from an atoll in the Tuamotu archipelago, 340 km from Tahiti in Polynesia, has many surprises in store for you!
A diving holiday in Tikehau brings you to discover this atoll 27 km long and 19 km wide surrounded by a reef where a ribbon of motus (islets) with very fine white and pink sandy beaches can be found.
Its lagoon, almost circular like a natural swimming pool, is only accessible via the Tuheiava pass, with its caves, which opens onto the Pacific Ocean.
Let yourself be tempted by this stopover in Tikehau, less well known than Rangiroa, but where the beautiful encounters in the channel are the same with sharks, schools of paddlefish, barracudas, napoleons, tuna and bonito passages. Experienced divers will appreciate the authentic side of the island.

Your diving stays in Tikehau, Polynesia is mainly centered around the Tuheiva pass with a superb drift dive to be done on the right or left-hand side, with the incoming current.The schools of fish are so compact that they mask the sunlight as they pass over you.
Take a descent into the blue to reach the first step: it's the best place in the area to meet grey sharks and leopard rays, schools of big-eyed trevallies, and schools of big-eyed trevallies.Look in the Blue, to sometimes spot a great hammerhead or tiger shark.

Curiously, Tuheiva Pass, just as the current is coming out, turns out to be different. Take to the water from the south corner of the channel.
Dives along the outer slope of the reef allow you to encounter large manta rays, which if they are not present here can end up on the side of the lagoon! Don't forget that Polynesia is a cetacean sanctuary with twelve species of dolphins present.
Teonai is located at the northern corner of the Tuheiva pass. You walk along the gently sloping coral reef where you can observe moray eels and pteroids.Then, following this drop, you arrive at a circus at 20m depth where you can see stone fish, schools of paddlefish, and blue-striped sweetlips.

Note the passage of white tip sharks and in the blue, tuna by two or three specimens as well as schools of woodcock.
At Trou aux Requins, we start the walk on a very colorful drop-off, 15m deep with red soldierfish in the holes.You can continue drifting along the drop-off towards the pass. Experienced divers will stop at - 50m to look for grey sharks.Take a look also at Aramu Ramu, north of the Tikehau channel, as it is a great place to do underwater biology as there is an abundance of corals, lots of color and life with leaf fish and frogfish.Amateur macro photographers will appreciate this place!
