Dive trip the Marine Park of Naples, the Parco Sommerso di Gaiola

Swim, dive, snorkel and dive in Italy, in the Marine Park of Naples, the Parco Sommerso di Gaiola

Diving in Naples? Yes, you can even do some of the most beautiful diving in Italy! In the northwest of the Gulf of Naples, between Greco-Roman history, Mediterranean nature, and Italian culture, the dives in the Parco Sommerso di Gaiola are worth spending a holiday in Naples. Created on 7/8/2002, the marine protected area "Parco Sommerso di Gaiola" owes its name to two islets located near the Posillipo coast. This marine park extends over an area of 42 hectares, from Borgo di Marechiaro to the splendid bay of Trentaremi, including part of the large rocky bank of Cavallara. During your diving holiday in Naples, you will enjoy the beautiful land scenery of the marine park with high yellow cliffs, beaten by the sea and the wind, which have dug faults, holes, and caves, and surmounted by the arid vegetation of the maquis. This is why the Roman aristocracy built sumptuous coastal villas here from the 1st century BC. The villa Pausilypon - a name that meant the place at the end of one's labors - was built here by Publius Vedio Pollione.

Currently, the marine protected area "Parco Sommerso di Gaiola" is a hub for research, training, scientific dissemination, and environmental education. Your diving holiday in Italy can therefore be focused on the activities of this real ecological laboratory for marine sciences. This marine park allows you to rediscover and enhance the natural and cultural heritage of the Gulf of Naples. It is therefore possible to dive there with approved centers such as Subaia Diving Center, to make an initiation with a Discover Scuba Diver, to follow PADI courses from Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver to Divemaster. During the winter season, the coasts of the Park are populated by a rich ornithological community, such as the cormorant, the herring gull, the seagull, the oystercatcher, and the kingfisher, as well as birds of prey such as the peregrine falcon and the kestrel. Many passerines are also counted, such as the solitary sparrow. Take advantage of your diving holiday in Italy to attend birdwatching courses, organized in February and March. Take advantage of diving to see Naples differently!

After the death of the owner, it became a huge imperial villa occupying the coastline, integrated into the current park. Also, discover by scuba diving the remains of these Roman villas, the landing stages, the fish ponds as well as the tuff quarries from which the building materials were extracted... Nevertheless, this area is subject to bradyseism, a volcanic phenomenon subject to the movements of the earth's tectonic plates, which manifests itself by movements of the ground. The ground sometimes rises and sometimes falls, sometimes abruptly, creating gaps in the coastline that the sea has gradually invaded. With the sea currents, life has swarmed, creating a wide biodiversity with octopus, bream, and damselfish in the middle of the vestiges of Antiquity. Incredible shots can be taken, for example, of a moray eel hiding in the middle of an ancient Roman murenarium!

The rules for the protection of the Marine Protected l'Aire Marine Protégée Parco Sommerso di Gaiola have been in place since 2002. There must be no plastic, metal, or glass waste deposited other than in containers. Hunting, fishing, and collecting rocks, shells, and archaeological objects are prohibited. Smokers should carry a pocket cigarette holder. In general, the area is open to the public (200 people at a time) every day from 10 am to 5 pm. During your holiday and diving trip to Naples, make your reservation via the Internet for small groups of a maximum of 5 people, accompanied by at least one adult. The presentation of a valid ID and the fiscal code for each participant is compulsory.
