Stay, Diving holidays in Egypt, in Marsa Alam, Red Sea
Are you tempted by a trip to Egypt's far south? Try a diving holiday in Marsa Alam, you won't regret it! Situated on the Red Sea, 270 km south of Hurghada, Marsa Alam is not very attractive at first sight, with its houses, small souks, and shisha bars lining the road in a disparate way... The Marsa Alam International Airport makes it easy to organize your holiday in Marsa Alam, with family, friends, or groups. Then the secret to a successful diving holiday in Marsa Alam is to choose your base camp well! Indeed, for your diving holidays in Marsa Alam, you can choose tented camps and bungalows for divers, high-end resorts, or a small charming hotel. Hotels often have their own House Reef in front of their beach and integrated dive centers.. For example, the Concorde Moreen Beach & Spa 5* has the beautiful Sharm Abu Dabour House Reef. Scuba divers can enjoy unlimited dives on the house reef during the day with tanks and weights provided. It's also ideal for a first dive or snorkeling trip or to undertake a PADI or SSI dive course. Night and early morning dives offer the chance to see Spanish dancers, pencil urchins, parrotfish sleeping in their mucus, and small predator hunts.
Diving from the shore from your hotel by truck is also a good option. The fringing reef along the coastline has gaps that make it easy for divers to get into the water at some very nice sites in depths of 10 to 40 meters. Banks of blue fusiliers and red anthias. Select accommodation preferably located in front of the best dive sites in Egypt. From the hotels in Port Galep, see dugongs and huge green turtles in the seagrass beds at Marsa Mubarak. From Abu Dabbab Bay, the dive centers at El Malikia Resort and Abu Dabbab Lodge take you to explore the popular Abu Dabbab Reefs dive spot. In the surrounding area, stingrays and sometimes guitar rays wallow in the sandy patches. Underwater photographers look for seahorses. Take the opportunity to do a nice wreck dive on the Abu Ghoson cargo ship that sank when it hit a reef. If you want to dive in Wadi Gimal National Park, then choose to stay at the Gorgonia Beach Resort 5* or Sham's Alam Beach Resort. This allows you to go on boat trips to Sheleineat, a small wonder of finger-like, staghorn corals and Acropora tables. See endemic seabirds at Wadi Gimal Island. Not sure about a diving trip to El Nabaa? The beautiful house reef is accessible from the long jetty. It is said that a dugong takes refuge here. Here you can do 1 or 2 dives a day or half a day, by daily boat, speedboat, shore dive, or minibus.
Allow 6 days and 7 nights to enjoy your stay in Marsa Aalam, in the following hotels: Red Sea Diving Safari has established 2 eco-diving camps, Marsa Shagra Village and Marsa Nakari, with tents of different standards, and villages entirely dedicated to diving. Oasis Dive Resort 4*, Concorde Moreen Beach & Spa 5*, Three Corners Equinox Beach Resort 3*Gorgonia Beach Resort 5* and Sham's Alam Beach Resort near Wadi Gimal Marine Park El Malikia Resort and Abu Dabbab Lodge 3* in Abu Dabbab Bay, Equinox Beach Resort is located on a beach in El Nabaa Bay. Dive sites
The southern part of the Egyptian Red Sea, less known to divers than the very popular resorts of Hurghada, El Gouna, Safaga and Sharm-El-Sheikh, remains nevertheless very attractive with exceptional diving sites, hotels and camps including their own diving centres, their multi-lingual instructors, powerful semi-rigid boats, speed boats allowing 2 dives during the half-day to return to the hotel for lunch, and the possibility of accommodating groups of 30 people. It is also from here that magnificent 40 m long diving cruise boats leave, with refined cuisine, spacious and comfortable cabins, and an onboard inflation station. Port Galep, close to Marsa Alam airport, is the departure point for Golden Triangle cruises to the Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone Islands. Marsa Alam Marina is home to cruise ships departing for Saint John's Reef, Zabargad and Rocky Island.
However, the best dive spots around Marsa Alam are still accessible on day trips. Small bays stretch along the south coast from Safaga through Marsa Alam to Hamatta. Dive and snorkel over sandy bottoms and seagrass beds with dugongs and turtles. After Ras Gharib, the best dive sites in Abu Dabbab are differentiated into Abu Dabbab 1, 2, 3. These 3 large reefs, in close proximity to each other, are rich in Red Sea fauna. The Elphinstone Reef, named the best dive site in Egypt, has an oblong shape, with a length of about 300 metres and a width of 30 metres. Its walls, straight drop-offs, drop to a depth of about 400 metres. It is almost parallel to the coast. Its extremities extend into plateaus where sharks, schools of tuna and barracudas can be observed.
Wadi El Gamal National Park has coral reefs with 450 species of coral and over 1200 species of fish. About 17% of the marine life is endemic to the park. Off Marsa Alam, Sha'ab Samadai is home to a school of Stenella longirostris dolphins. During the day, daily dive boats take divers and snorkelers there. In the evening, cruise ships come to anchor here at the end of their tour. Swimming with dolphins... More magical memories to share with the family! Habili El Radir, little protected and very little dived, is located south of Marsa Alam. Incredibly rich, covered with white and purple soft corals and Acropora table, palm around a multitude of coral pinnacles, at a depth of 25m. If you're lucky, you'll see white tip sharks!
The best diving trips to Marsa Alam are 8 days 7 nights with the first day being the flight from Europe to Egypt after which a minibus driver will meet you at the airport. He will transfer you to your accommodation where you will settle in, have dinner and spend your first night. The all-inclusive full board option is the most suitable and the only one available as there are no small restaurants around. It starts with dinner on the arrival day and ends after breakfast on the departure day. For 5 days, choose the 10 dives package, or the one including unlimited dives, autonomy or guided, on the house reef. Then, according to the planned outings and your desires, choose by paying for the supplement, where you dream of diving. A free day is planned, still in the "all-inclusive" formula, with a departure to Europe the next day.
Are you a diver looking for a fun diving holiday in Marsa Alam? Stay in a tent at Marsa Nakari Camp on the beach. During the day, dive to your heart's content in the house reef. For kids, families, and snorkelers, head to Sha'ab Samadai, a great spot to swim with dolphins. This horseshoe-shaped reef is home to a large colony of bottlenose dolphins, year-round. Snorkel with them or dive into the reef with its drop-offs and beautiful coral gardens. Early in the morning, from Marsa Shagra camp, board RIBs or speed boats to reach one of the best dive sites in the Red Sea, the mythical Elphinstone Reef, 12 km from the coast.. Consider it a veritable observatory of longimanus sharks, grey sharks, silky sharks, and sometimes tiger sharks!
Just above the surface, Elphinstone is 300m long. At each end, its
northern and southern shelves extend from 10m to 40m in depth. In the
walls of Elphinstone South, a deep cave, the Arch (55m), opens up. Experienced divers
follow the slope of the northern plateau to the break at 40m. Be
careful, you are going down against the current. Wait there, the
marauding sharks will not fail to approach you!
