Dive trip Mohéli
Stay, Diving holidays in the Comoros, in Mohéli
Want to go somewhere else? Get ready for a diving holiday in Mohéli, the smallest of the four islands of the Comoros archipelago in the Indian Ocean, which also includes Grande Comore, Anjouan, and Mayotte. Moheli is so small that you can drive around it in less than half a day. Nevertheless, it has a very rich natural heritage and you can spend a week without getting bored! You pass through about twenty villages, and some villagers offer bungalows for rent, allowing you to spend one night in each village. Of course, the capital of Moheli, Fomboni, is the town with the largest number of hotels and pensions. The inhabitants of the island live from spice growing, cattle breeding and fishing. In July and August, big weddings take place and you will certainly be invited if you make friends with the locals. Some celebrations require up to 3 years of preparation and can last up to a week. You will attend the women's drumstick dance and the beef tam-tam with the men who challenge an ox to dance. The meals offered are rather based on grilled chicken, goat's cheese, rice, and cooked plantain bananas.
Mohéli is the wildest and least developed of the Comoros islands. It also has a lagoon outline and beautiful beaches, as well as 13 islets that dot it. There are about 20 dive sites in Moheli, most of which are in the marine reserve and have beautiful drop-offs, caves, and coral gardens. Explore them by scuba diving or snorkeling among reef fish such as parrotfish, angelfish, trumpet fish, and butterflyfish. You will be amazed at the number of green and hawksbill turtles that live in Comoro waters. Expect beautiful encounters in Moheli whether on the surface or on the bottom, with manta rays (manta alfredi), bottlenose dolphins, coral sharks, blacktip sharks, electro dolphins, pilot whales and dugong, pantropical dolphins. Seasonal passages of humpback whales are to be expected.
