Diving holidays and stays in Spain
Imagine a diving holiday in Spain, at the sunny gateway to Europe! An easy trip by train, plane or car, and you're on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. To the music of Luz Casal's Piensa en mi, over tasty tapas, with a good sangria, the Costa Brava has something to enchant you! Some of the best diving in Spain takes place in the Cap Creus reserve, accessible from Port de la Selva, Cadaques and Rosas. Spend some quality time in Cadaques amidst the small white houses and lively streets. Discover the rich cultural heritage of Cadaques, a place where the painter Salvador Dali is remembered. For experienced divers, take the opportunity to jump into the water from the Diving Portlligat Cadaques boat to visit the wreck of the steel cargo ship, the SS Trégastel or the SS Llanishen. An inexpensive stay in L'Escala also gives you the luxury of exploring a coastline full of underwater caves and the foundations of Illa Mateua with moray eels, conger eels and Forkbeard.
The proximity of the Mateua Dive Centre to the Lacus and Riells campsites, nestled among the fragrant pine trees, will make for a pleasant stay on the Costa Brava. The whole family can enjoy a summer of snorkelling, scuba diving and children's diving in the beautiful, secluded cove of the Cala Montjoi holiday village, between the sea and the mountains. Relaxation is guaranteed with all-inclusive accommodation and numerous activities in the heart of the pine forests and scrubland of Cap Creus. Individual divers will appreciate spending the day - or even a few days - in the charming little Cala Joncols hotel, lost in the middle of olive trees, on the edge of the beach, with its swimming pool. Lunch on the terrace with the song of the cicadas before exploring the dive sites of the Cap Creus marine reserve with Euro divers Cala Joncols. Here, drop-offs, scree and islets are home to dentex, barracudas and sea breams. One of the must-divers in Spain? You'll find it in the Medes Islands, an archipelago of seven islands protected by the Montgri Natural Park, located one kilometre off the coast. L'Estartit is also ideal for group diving.
Here, Catalan dive centres such as Unisub are able to accommodate divers from non-profit organisations on large boats, provide accommodation in good value hotels such as the Medes 2, and offer a common inflation station, thus avoiding any handling. The diving spots of the Medes Islands, with the long opalescent tunnel, the dolphin statue, and the huge, gluttonous black groupers, will leave you with unforgettable memories. Further south, stay in Palamos at the charmingly British Marina Hotel. Enjoy a stroll along the embankments in front of the harbour, where you can taste delicious grilled prawns. Afterwards, board the boat of Gidive, a teak diving specialist.
Go diving in the Tarragona region, you won't be disappointed! Take part in the Tuna Tour Diving from L'Ametlla de Mar, dive and swim among an incredible school of bluefin tuna, 2 meters long and weighing 250 kg. Visiting the wrecks of the Pârque Subacuático in Tarragona will give you a great time. Your diving holiday in Cambrils allows you to go night diving from Cavet beach. Experienced divers will have the satisfaction of discovering the wrecks of the Cavour and the Perim. Your first dive in the crystal-clear waters of the coves of Cala Vidre or Cala Sant Jordi will enchant you. The first artificial reef created in the Mediterranean, the Biòtop, will amaze you with its biodiversity. Take advantage of your stay in Tarragona to spend a family vacation at the PortAventura World theme park. Also enjoy other water activities in L'Ametlla de Mar and Cambrils, such as canoeing, windsurfing, and jet skiing. You can also go hiking on the Mediterranean Trail (GR 92).
