Silvertip shark
Swim, Snorkel, Dive, See, Meet, Watch the Silvertip shark
The white tip reef shark, three meters long, lives off the islands and near coral reefs from 30 meters to 800 meters deep. It can be found in pairs or alone and follows schools of dolphins with pleasure. Its predators are killer whales and especially humans, as its skin, fins and cartilage are sold on Asian markets. The meat is consumed locally. Its carcass is used to make fishmeal to feed fish farms. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature classifies it as near threatened, close to vulnerable status.
An inquisitive man, he is not worried about the presence of a diver he will get close to. In case of stimuli either caused by the practice of feeding, or by returning to his hunting territory, he dances intimidation. He accelerates to gain a good distance from the intruder. Then he turns around and charges towards the diver until he reaches a distance of twice the length of his body. Then he stops abruptly, lowers his pectoral fins, opens his mouth, and lowers the back of his body, as if in a trance. He often approaches boats because he is attracted by the low-frequency sounds emitted by the propellers.

Breeding
The Whitetip Shark is viviparous. The breeding period begins with a courtship ritual. The male holds the female by biting her on her dorsal fin, which causes scars. The female has a one-year gestation period. The embryo depletes the nutrient supply. It is then fed by its mother through a kind of placenta.
The female gives birth to up to ten juveniles per litter. The newborns are about 65 cm long and remain at shallow depths for the first few months of life to avoid predators. Adults live at greater depths.
