Stargazer
Swim, Snorkel, Dive, See, Meet, Watch the Stargazer
The Stargazer has an electric organ behind each eye. The electric shock is more or less intense depending on the the time of the year and whether it is a male or a female. The end of its pectoral fins contains venom. Stings by this fish are as painful as that by weevers.
CHECK SEASONALITY
Uranoscopus scaber

Uranoscope, Rascasse blanche, Rat de mer, Stargazer
Food
The Stargazer is carnivorous. It hunts on the lookout, wallowing in the sand, luring its prey with a flap of skin that serves as a decoy. When its prey comes close, it sends an electric shock that will paralyze it. He then has time to open his huge mouth and swallow it. It also eats worms, molluscs and crustaceans that are buried in the sand and that it can desensitize.
Breeding
The uranoscope reaches sexual maturity at the age of two years for sizes varying between 10 and 15 cm long depending on whether it is a female or a male. The female lays about 100,000 eggs, not all of which will be fertilized. The juveniles are pelagic and follow the currents. Then they will fall to the bottom and begin a sedentary, sandy life. The female lives for six years and the male has a longevity of up to four years.
