The leatherback sea turtle feeds on Cyanea capillata octopuses, sea squirts, soft coral, small fish, urchins, crustaceans, mollusks, and algae. The turtle is often found with suckerfish.
Breeding
His sexual maturity would be reached around the age of ten to twelve. During courtship, the male clings to the female's back with his flippers. Single fertilization produces four to ten eggs per female for the season. These eggs are laid 10 to 15 days apart. The most important spawning sites are in Surinam, Guyana, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, Queensland, Australia, Florida, and Malaysia. Nesting takes place at night. The incubation of the eggs in the sand varies from 60 to 70 days. The sexes are determined by temperature during incubation. The embryos become males with a temperature of 26 to 28°C. The determination of females only takes place with a temperature of more than 30 °C. The newborn weighs 30 g and its carapace measures 6 cm on average.
