Conger eel
Swimming, Snorkeling and Diving to See and Watch the Conger eel
The Conger eel is has a very long body, it can reach 2 meters! Its skin is grey to black and its belly white.
The conger eel lives along the coastline, in rocks, wrecks, and under overhangs. It likes to hide in cavities. It can be observed swimming in open water.
Conger eels are very strong and can remain half-submerged at low tide waiting for the tide to come back in. If fed by divers, it can become curious and come after more food. It then bites thinking that it has grabbed a small piece of food. Its bite is not too serious, but it can cause infections due to the rotting food stuck between its teeth.
Its main predators are men and seals.

Food
At night the Conger eel ventures out of the burrow to hunt fish, mollusks, cuttlefish, octopuses, and crustaceans. Its jaw is very powerful. It is a carnivorous fish. It enables him to crush the shell of crustaceans. It tears off tentacles by grabbing it and spinning on itself.
Breeding
The Conger eel reaches sexual maturity around the age of 5. It breeds during the summer, in open water and very deep. The conger eel mates only once in its life, and dies immediately after. The female lays several million eggs that are fertilized and then become larvae. They drift like plankton for two years. The larvae fall to the seafloor near the coastline and then adult life begins. A conger eel can reach a weight of 40 kg in five years.
