The Pantropical Spotted Dolphin can be recognized by its slender, streamlined body and its slender beak. Its livery is dark grey with lighter flanks and belly. When they reach adulthood, dark spots appear as they age. They live along coasts and in the open sea, in tropical and temperate waters around the world.

Pantropical spotted dolphin is found in all tropical seas. It lives along the coastline in open water. It mainly feeds on fish such as mackerel, flying fish, as well as cephalopods and crustaceans.


The Pantropical Spotted Dolphin reaches the average age of sexual maturity at 11 years of age. It has no particular season to give birth. Nevertheless, the number of births increases in spring and autumn. The gestation period lasts less than a year. Females give birth to a single newborn every 36 months in the eastern Pacific and about every 48 months near Japan. The lactation period lasts a year and a half.

Open from March to October, Cetacean Watching Lda offers changing rooms, equipment storage, a classroom, showers, and toilets. Equipment rental is available. The Lagon Maoré diving centre is located in the south of Grande-Terre, Mayotte, 45 km from Mamoudzou and on the beach of N'Gouja, inside the small resort Jardin Maoré. A beautiful tropical garden houses 18 bungalows and a restaurant, bordering the beach. Rental of Aqualung equipment and 2 rebreathers is available here. Nitrox 32% is offered to divers who are already Nitrox certified. The training centre Le Lagon Maoré offers PADI TDI SDI SSI FFESSM and ANMP/CEDIP courses from beginners to advanced divers. Qualified instructors, passionate, supervise groups of 4 divers. You embark either on a 9.6 m aluminium barge, approved for 19 divers or on a 10 m aluminium barge for 21 divers. Their powerful motorisation allows them to get to the sites quickly, with safe launches.
