Common spiny lobster
Dive and observe the Common spiny lobster
The European Spiny Lobster takes refuge with its congeners in the same rocky structure. To move around, it walks on the bottom. When it feels attacked, it swims backward with rapid and successive tail movements. Specimens weighing from 2 to 6 kg can be found. Scientists believe that lobsters can live 100 years or more.

Food
The Common spiny lobster can crush the shell of sea urchins. It also feeds on crustaceans, small fish and carrions.
Breeding
The common spiny lobster reaches sexual maturity around the age of 4. The male and female face each other and the male's sperm sticks to the female's underside. The female rips up the capsules with special claws, which releases the sperm that fertilizes her eggs.
She lays several million eggs. Depending on the water temperature, incubation can last from 5 to 9 months. After hatching, the larvae reach a size of 3 mm and migrate like plankton. The common spiny lobster molts several times in its life.
