Devil ray
Swim, Snorkel, Dive, See, Meet, Watch the Devil ray
The Devil ray, or Mobula, is a member of the eagle ray family and looks... like a manta ray!
The Mobula has as a difference with the Manta its mouth placed under the body rather than at the front, but also it is smaller than the Manta ray and its tail is longer.
There are 9 species of Devil Ray, among them, we find the Mobula mobular or Devil Ray. It can reach a height of 5 m and weighs about a ton. It lives to a depth of 30 m
Devil Rays live in tropical and temperate oceanic waters, mostly in fragmented and sparse populations.
It is vulnerable to environmental changes, including pollution.
Man is its main predator because fishermen catch it in nets.

Food
The Devil ray feed on zooplankton, small crustaceans such as shrimp larvae and small fish, swimming with their mouths wide open. It has mandibles on each side of the mouth. These are rolled up and run at will and independently of each other. It unrolls them at the same time to use them as a funnel and direct a large volume of water containing plankton towards its open mouth. The ray has branches that play a double function: oxygenating its blood and filtering the water ingested to recover plankton.
Breeding
The Devil ray is ovoviparous, which means that the juvenile develops inside the female's body without a placenta. It feeds on the yolk sac and then absorbs the uterine liquid which provides mucus, fat, and high-proteins. The female gives birth to a juvenile which has an adult size. It gives birth to only one juvenile at a time.

Closed during the month of February, Sakalav Diving is managed by Alain-Benoit Rassat, an underwater photographer and videographer specializin in oceanography, and Nathalie Bazard, specializing in tourism and 4* hotel business. Your dives are personalized and take place according to what interests you. At your request, video and photo courses, macro or atmospheric, are organized by Alain-Benoit, a real pro in underwater photography. During the whole year, bio dives take place with the search for nudibranchs, seahorses, antennae, and leaf fish. Don't miss the whale-watching trips. [+]
