The banded snake-eel dwells in lagoons and reef flats at depths of around 30 m.
and can use its sharp tail to get backwards into the sand. It remains there, its head at ground level. It is harmless. It is possible to take pictures of them. Their shape and size differences, as well as do the bands on their skin.

Food
During the day it meanders in seagrass beds and shallow waters to hunt fish and crustaceans hidden in the sand. It has a highly sensitive sense of smell which enables it to find prey.
Breeding
The males and females release their reproductive fluids into the water where fertilization takes place. The larvae look like spermatozoa. The banded snake-eel is a solitary animal.

You are greeted by multilingual and international instructors who speak your language. You also leave from the shore to explore the fringing reef either on a full or half-day excursion, diving or snorkeling at Marsa Mubarak, Shuni Bay, Marsa Shagara, and Abu Dabbab Bay.
Don't forget to take adjustable fins with hard-soled shoes for walking through the desert rocks and over dead corals. The night dive is also done from the reef along the coastline that you have already explored by day. Don't hesitate to sign up for the Night Diving course. There is the possibility to rent or buy diving equipment on-site, including wet suits and wetsuits. You will receive advice on the maintenance, repair, and adjustment of diving equipment.
Non-divers, do not hesitate to participate in snorkeling initiations or snorkeling trips to accompany divers on adapted sites. The TopDive Dive Centre is located in two places in Fakarava, Polynesia: in the village of Rotoava, North Fakarava and in Motu Penu, Tetamanu, South Fakarava. The headquarters and main meeting point for divers before and after the dive trips is in Rotoava. Open 7 days a week, all year round, the shop on-site allows the purchase of equipment and small emergency supplies. The rental equipment is in very good condition and includes regulators with built-in computers. This TopDive training centre is a PADI 5 ***** however SSI and FFESSM/CMAS courses are also offered for beginners up to Advanced Open Water Diver level.
The trips are carried out on board aluminium diving boats adapted to the comfort and safety of the participants. Instructors and guides speak English, French, Japanese and Spanish. Two trips per day, morning and afternoon, consist of two dives each and are scheduled according to the tide. Garuae Pass, located at the northern end of Fakarava Atoll, is the largest kilometre wide pass in Polynesia with (supposedly) seven different currents running through it.
At the time of the rising tide, you will witness the incredible spectacle of a wall of sharks rising at the mouth of the pass. At the southern end of Fakarava, Tumakohua Pass is designated by UNESCO as a nature reserve of outstanding reef and ecosystem quality. Sharks can be seen during all your dives. Don't miss the marbled loaches at Fakarava, especially during the mating season! The FL-Team Dive Centre (formerly Fred Lombard) is located almost inside the small dive resort Nemo, a stone's throw from the aluminium marina in Safaga. The main entrance is located on the side of the former Divers House. Greg and Agneska welcome you here on the morning of your arrival at 8 a, to complete the formalities. Then, every day, after your free transfer from the hotels north of Safaga, the sailors and instructors welcome you on the deck of the boat Calypso, at the marina. Your equipment and tanks are already on the boat. After 30 to 60 minutes of sailing, you arrive at one of the best dive spots in Safaga such as Abu Kefan or Panorama Reef. After a full briefing, it's time to get in the water for a 45 to 60-minute dive.
A second dive is then arranged at a different dive site or on a different part of the same location. Back on board the boat, it's finally time for a snack with even chocolate pancakes! And finally, the boat returns to the marina between 4 and 5 pm. Also a French FFESSM training centre, FL-Team allows you to start your diving experience with your first dive and to follow PADI diving courses from Open Water Diver to Divemaster. A rebreather course is even available, ideal for underwater photographers who don't want to blow bubbles! Technical diving is also in the spotlight at FL-Team.
From Air Diluent Rebreather to Hypoxic Trimix Rebreather courses are spread over 5 days of training. In Safaga, take the time to specialise in diving with a side-moun or solo diver certification.
