You dream of scuba diving in Indonesia, but you don't know where to go? With its heavenly landscapes and beautiful coral reefs, Sulawesi Island is a unique diving destination and a paradise of macro-diversity! Located in the North of Sulawesi, Bunaken and Siladen islands allow you to dive in the Bunaken National Park, created in 1991. Bunaken's 30 dive sites are home to one of the world's most important marine biodiversity, including 7 of the 8 species of giant clams existing on the planet, 500 varieties of coral, and more than 1500 species of fish. This diving area represents more than 70% of the fish species in the western Pacific Ocean!
The northern zone of Bunaken National Park includes steep drop-offs dropping from 30 to 60 meters in depth in a sumptuous blue with visibility close to 30 meters. The underwater scenery is magnificent with huge sponges, a profusion of hard and soft black corals, gorgonians, and whips amidst schools of fish. The southern area of Bunaken National Park is entirely different, with sandy slopes covered with seagrass where dugongs pass with their juveniles and turtles frolic. A diving trip to Bunaken and Siladen also takes you, via Manado, to Bangka Island in the north and Lembeh Strait in the east.
The best season to dive in Bunaken and Siladen from Sulawesi Island is from June to September. The dive sites are generally accessible to all divers, as well as snorkeling and freediving. However, some spots are subject to strong currents and are suitable for experienced divers. Don't forget to inform your diving level when booking so that the centers can choose appropriate sites!
