Dive trip Hamata, Red Sea

Stay, Diving holidays in Egypt, in Hamata, Red Sea

Do you say you've done all the diving in Egypt? Then you should certainly organize a diving trip to Hamata, in the south! 172 km from Marsa Alam airport, turn around to see the small white houses scattered along the road, burnt by the sun, in this windy desert corner. You've arrived! Lovers of pristine open spaces will be delighted to enjoy a diving and kite surfing holiday in Hamata amidst a beautiful landscape of desert, shallow turquoise lagoon, white sandy beaches, mangrove swamps for endemic seabirds, and constant wind. The Wadi Gemal National Park protects this fragile natural environment on land and sea. Fringing reefs line the coastline. Most hotels and camps have their own House Reef and integrated dive center. Take advantage of this opportunity to do your first dive, and take PADI and SSI-certified courses, whether it's for children with the Bubble-maker, for beginners with the Open Water Diver, or for professional divers with the Divemaster.

Advanced divers and underwater photographers, enjoy early morning and night dives on the House Reef to discover Spanish dancers and pencil urchins. You can choose the unlimited dives on the House Reef. In Wadi Lahmy Bay, the Lahami Bay Beach Resort & Gardens and the Wadi Lahmy Azur Resort cater to those who like a comfortable setting. The more spartan Wadi Lahami Village is a paradise for divers and kite surfers. The camp is a mix of tents and bungalows, with a restaurant and bar for a good beer at the end of the day. From here you can access the Fury Shoals, the best dive site in Hamata! Go diving at Abu Galawa Kebir on the Tien Hsing, named the best wreck dive spot in Hamata. Indeed, sunk in the '40s, this Chinese cargo ship about thirty meters long, is lying 17 m deep. Lying across the reef, its bow is visible at the surface at low tide. Decide to do a Wreck Diving course here, thanks to the PADI or SSI specialty. Abu Galawa Soraya, a few minutes sail away, is a patchy reef with pretty coral gardens in the middle of which lies a resin sailboat wreck, very sparsely colonized by wildlife.

Allow 6 days and 7 nights to enjoy your stay in Hamata, with an all-inclusive package including full board and non-alcoholic beverages, in the following hotels Lahami Bay Beach Resort & Gardens and Wadi Lahmy Azur Resort. Wadi Lahmy Village is managed by the Red Sea Diving Safari with a tented and bungalow formula. Several formulas exist on the House Reef with unlimited diving or a package of 5 to 10 dives, with or without supervision. With extra charge, boat trips are organized for half a day to the Fury Shoal, with 30 to 50 minutes of navigation, and 2 dives done at an hour interval. You are back at the camp for lunch. In the afternoon, the dive centers offer a boat dive on the reef and a dive around 6 pm.
Plan on a budget of 1000 euros or more, including flights.

Dive sites

A taste of adventure awaits you on the reefs of Fury Shoals during your diving holiday in Hamata. These dive spots, protected from the prevailing winds, are also frequented by cruise ships calling in from the Saint John's Reef, Zabardgad and Rocky Island routes. Hamata's most popular dive sites, Abu Galawa Soraya and Abu Galawa Kebir are located not far from each other. Explore the beautiful coral garden on the western side of Abu Galawa Kebir by drift diving, a reef with beautiful turquoise pools. On the other side of the 30m wide channel, a small satellite reef, also named Abu Galawa Soraya for its difference in size from Abu Galawa Kebir, remains the jewel of Hamata's Fury Shoals dive spots.

Check out the wreck of the Tien Hsing, a metal structure covered in beautiful hard and soft corals, with a napoleon lurking nearby. Take a stroll to the beautiful encounter spot at Hamata, Sha'ab Maksur, in the Fury Schoals. The name means the Broken Stone because of a large fractured rock to the north. One of these dives is on the northern plateau of the reef with occasional rays and shark passes. Far to the south of this huge reef, explore a short plateau flanked by a mound of coral, purple and white alcyonium, covered in glassfish and anthias. Further down the slope is dotted with large orange gorgonians. Don't miss Hamata's most playful dive, at Sha'ab Malahi, a long, completely fragmented reef with many intertwining corridors, a diver's playground with turtles.

At Sataya, in the dolphin sanctuary at Hamata, jump into the water with your snorkels and fins to watch the dolphins play around you. At the end of the day, snorkel along with the southern drop-off of Sataya to enter a sumptuous coral garden bathed in the rays of the setting sun. Here you can see jacks hunting in the small fry, turtles greedily grazing on the alcyonium, and magnificent hard corals. The Fury Shoals are a magnificent playground for the most demanding divers...

At Sha'ab Claudio, expect to visit one of the best atmospheric dive sites in Hamata. Corridors lead inside the reef to a room, a true cathedral bathed in sunlight from the crevices of the ceiling. Take advantage of this place to learn a PADI or SSI specialty, cave diving. Colonized by small Red Sea fauna, each side of Sha'ab Claudio is covered in a beautiful coral garden with large porites on one side and finger-like hard corals, stag horns, and Acropora tables on the other. Then embark on a fun dive at Malahi which means Child's Play. On this fun dive, wander through a maze of corridors in the middle of the reef, bordered in places by large coral towers. Snorkel or dive, children, and adults alike have a wonderful and unforgettable time at Sha'ab Sataya, Hamata's dolphin reef. Dolphins come and go in the lagoon of this reef, ideal for diving and swimming with dolphins in Egypt.  In Sataya, become an underwater naturalist with the PADI or SSI specialty offered by the Hamata dive centers.
