Information

A diving holiday in Concarneau or in the Glénan archipelago, on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, in France, allows you to dive on the wreck of the War Captain flying the English flag. This steam freighter belongs to the so-called "War" series of ships built and used during the period from 1914 to 1918. The British state had placed orders with private shipyards for the construction of this type of ship.

These ships, 80.5 m long and 12.9 m wide, were built in 1917 at the "Staten Island S.B.C°" shipyard in Port Richmond on behalf of the London Shipping Controller. These boats were designed in the same spirit as the Lakers used in the Lake District for lock passage. The War Captain departs with a load of coal from Glasgow, England, via Brest to Blaye, France. On September 9, 1917, the ship struck a rocky shoal, Laon ejen Taer at full speed and broke up on both sides.

The War Captain lies between 10 and 35 m deep, to the west of the Glénan archipelago. To be seen: the boilers visible at 15 m deep, the tree and its propeller, the boilers, the winches, a windlass, the cargo masts. The site is quite exceptional, the wreck is in an environment with a beautiful wealth of fauna and flora.

With Angélus Plongée, discover also wrecks such as the trawler Le Philippe Eric, sunk in 1983, and resting at a depth of 20 meters, in front of a wall of pout. Through Angélus Plongée, visit the Hanan, the wreck of a small Dutch coaster from the Second World War, lying in 24 meters of water, 2 nautical miles northeast of the Palais. A wooden trawler escorted the Hanan on its way from Belle-Isle to Quiberon. It had been requisitioned in Belgium and armed by the Germans. The British planes sank it in 26 m of water. Expect an Indiana Jones dive with hundreds of black and fragile brittle stars overlapping and forming a moving black carpet. Angelus Plongée offers a nice bio dive at La Pointe des Poulains, around the rock Le Cochon. Covered with sponges, this rock is covered with numerous invertebrates, crustaceans, and invaded by fish. With Angélus Plongée, along with the Côte Sauvage, expect an atmospheric dive at Ster-Vras with its cathedrals, and at Koh-Kastell with its many faults and drop-offs. [+]
