Dive trip Beqa
Stay, Diving and cruising holidays in Fiji, in Beqa
This is the shark diving mecca of the world! Beqa is an island in Fiji of about 30 km² located 10 km from the south coast of Viti Levu Island. We organize your diving trip to Beqa Island where there is a Dive resort, arriving by the town of Pacific Harbour. The particularity of Beqa Island is that it is an ancient submerged volcano surrounded by an immense coral reef 300 km long, bathing in the Pacific Ocean.
The fringing reef is close to the beach, hence easy departures for snorkeling trips and diving initiations. The great popularity of diving here lies in the 5 km long channel between the large island of Viti Levu and the island of Beqa, where many sharks pass through. There are up to 8 different species of sharks including tiger shark, bulldog shark, lemon shark, and sandbar shark.
Nurse sharks, white tip sharks, blacktip sharks, and coral sharks are present everywhere, you should almost push them! During the dives dolphins and turtles compete for the star. In the Beqa lagoon, 4 wrecks of Taiwanese trawlers, about 34 meters long, were discovered and sunk at a depth of 30 meters to serve as artificial reefs with groupers and schools of fusiliers. Their decks culminate at 20 meters which makes them accessible to Open Water Diver and very attractive for photographers.

Dive sites
About 20 dive sites are located just 10 to 20 minutes by boat from Pacific Harbour, around Beqa Island. Some of these sites are among the world's Top 10 best dives. Caesar's Rocks Side Streets and Nisici Rocks have a profusion of pinnacles covered with a profusion of soft corals and gorgonians, among which the beautiful blue ribbon moray eels can be found. At Side Streets, you feel like you're walking between the buildings of a city! We can observe superb soft coral, dark red and purple, in the middle of the surgeons' benches. The Shark Dive at the Bistro is a special Shark dive, carried out in one of the two marine reserves of the island. We descend into clear waters, on a bottom of 18 to 25 meters.
Sharks circle around the feeding area, along with hundreds of jacks, snappers and huge Queensland groupers, Potato Cod, as well as napoleons. The divers position themselves on the reef, respecting a security perimeter in the Arena, which is delimited by a rope. They observe the sharks while the guide lures them with fish scraps escaping through the holes of the closed garbage cans.Napoleons, groupers and voracious jacks come running, also attracted by the smell of the feast.
Up to 8 species of sharks are encountered during the same dive including tiger sharks, large bull sharks, reef sharks including silvertip (Carcharhinus albimarginatus), blacktip sharks, nurse sharks, lemon sharks and grey reef sharks. There are more than 300 species of fish concentrated here. We finish the walk around a wreck. After 20 minutes of spectacle, the divers come up from the coral reef where grey reef sharks, blacktip and white tip sharks now move more quietly. The dive lasts about 50 minutes which is an ideal time for shark lovers, photographers and videographers.
After a time interval of one hour, the same dive is done again. But we can't know what we are going to see because the tide has changed and the chum smoke has dissipated far away. At Joes Best, we explore a large pinnacle full of soft corals where the blue ribbon moray eels are housed, and where we pass under a rocky arch. Take a long walk at Pearl Rock to see 6 pinnacles covered with beautiful purple, white and pink soft corals at 14 metres.
You can also visit 3 large coral pinnacles at Glory Hole, which are 14 to 5 metres high and are popular with photographers for their beautiful yellow and white soft corals, were purple and orange anthias frolic. At Carpet Cove, we explore the wreck of a 33-metre long trawler, lying at a depth of 30 metres, where a large barracuda stands guard with cohorts of scorpionfish. Make a detour to Seven Sisters, 7 pinnacles of coral covered with beautiful bright red soft corals and where butterflyfish and Moorish idols twirl around.
The shallow depth of Million Dollar Point makes it possible to stay there for a long time, in a magnificent luminosity and to take beautiful pictures of soft corals declining all the colours of the rainbow. Frogs Leap, outside the lagoon, is popular for its large patches of hard corals. The name Turtle Head is due to the shape of the reef, which can only be reached depending on the tide. These diving holidays at Beqa Island are ideal for families and couples especially from May to October.
