Dive trip Cala Montjoi, Costa Brava
Stay, Diving holidays in Spain, in Cala Montjoi, Costa Brava
Would you like to let your little ones run free in the alleys of a lovely Spanish village with white houses? Leave them at the mini-club while you kayak along the shore, play tennis with your neighbor or sing at the top of your voice at the karaoke bar. And, as we know how to live well in Spain, treat yourself to tasty Mediterranean cuisine at the beach restaurant! This Xiringuito de Montjoi, on the seafront, has recently been awarded the Gastronomy of Origin label because the meat, fish, fruit, and vegetables come from the surrounding areas, ports, and breeders. For an aperitif with friends or family, order a cold beer or a glass of Rioja with tapas, on the beach, and let yourself be seduced by the magical light of the Costa Brava and the hypnotic sound of the waves on the shore. Enjoy an ice cream on the terrace, read a book, sunbathe or simply enjoy the festive atmosphere of Cala Montjoi.
Cala Montjoi is such an exceptional place that even the Catalan chef Ferran Adrià, who opened the world's most famous restaurant in Barcelona, El Bulli 1846, had a culinary laboratory built here to pass on the knowledge and spirit of El Bulli to future generations. Here the world's greatest chefs meet to play with the visual aspect of food, using additives and working on its colors, shapes, and textures. From April to September, head to the holiday village of Cala Montjoi, nestled at the end of a sumptuous bay with steep slopes. Swim in the coves where the crystal clear waters wash up on the beach. With your family or in a group, enjoy your diving holiday on the Costa Brava, in the heart of nature, in the Cap Creus nature reserve. A relaxing holiday awaits you, with a full board and plenty of sports activities as well as fun dances and shows around the pool. The bay and hotel of Cala Montjoi require a 1-hour drive from Figueras in Catalonia or 25 minutes from Roses. You can book a transfer from the station to Cala Montjoi. For even more relaxation, stay at least 6 days and 7 nights at the holiday village Cala Montjoi.
Open every day from June to September, this place is ideal for families and groups. It is a bit like the original Club Méditerranée with bungalows for 2 people with an extra bed or units for 4 people. Parking is outside the complex so there is no vehicle traffic inside the holiday village. Cala Montjoi's heated restaurant can accommodate up to 350 people in different areas. Try the various lobster and seafood paellas at the buffet meals, which are included in the holiday package. A multi-purpose room is available for shows. A seminar room is dedicated to groups. Opening on the beach, the diving center Cala Montjoi is integrated into the holiday village. You can choose to dive by boat or from the shore, for half a day. If you are a large group, don't hesitate to ask for a group package. The most suitable diving package for autonomous divers consists of 5 to 10 dives spread over 5 days. Don't forget to take your diving insurance with you. Expect a budget of 700 euros for 7 nights, for 2 people, and 6 dives with your own equipment, depending on the accommodation. (without travel).
Marine species in the area
Dive sites
The Cap Creus nature reserve, created in 1998, is very pleasant
in summer, but in winter it is a place where the winds are very strong.
From November to March, strong currents drain the 16 dive sites which are spread along the shore, around the rocky islets, in the coves, and around the small capes, from Bau de Cap Falco to Cala Figuera, passing through the most beautiful dive sites of the Cap Creus marine reserve, such as Bau de Cap Trencat, Bau de la Ferrera, Punta del Traire, El Bisbot, Punta de la Creu. The planktonic masses, carried by this formidable energy, attract fish that feed greedily on them. This creates beautiful marine biodiversity with gorgonians, red coral, sars, sea breams, and several species of colorful nudibranchs. The reproduction of certain species of fish takes place in April and May with large gatherings of which the sea breams are a part, particularly up to a depth of 30 meters. These large shoals move from one site to another, from El Gat, Cova Fumada, Cova de Tamaru, El Clot del Boc, La Capella, La Reparada, Cala Figuera to Cova del Pelegri.
The remains of the wreck of the Boreas lie at a depth of between 20 and 32 meters, 2 km from the port of Llosa de Palamós. This Second World War ship was sunk in 1989 to allow conger eels, bream, and sea bass to settle in peace. To explore it, you'd better have a good command of your underwater orientation! Experienced divers should also not miss the wreck of the Marmoler, which lies between 36 and 40 meters underwater. Here you will discover the load of marble that the ship was carrying when it sank. From the beach, you can also access the Seca, an imposing rock that rises 14 meters to 3 meters below the surface, with 4 sixteenth-century cannons lying in the sediment at its foot! Discover also La Vaca, in 12 to 40 m of water, a large cave with large and luminous openings, opening on the Blue, and whose walls are covered with orange and red gorgonians. Here, the coralligenous bottom is partially or completely covered with Posidonia. Large groupers look at you with their big round eyes.
Others Activities
Take advantage of your diving holiday in Cala Montjoi to visit local festivals such as the Feria de la Santa Creu in Figueres in May, the Festival of the Roses on the 15th of August, the Terra de Trobadors in Castello D'Empuries in September, or the San Juan festival. Some guided tours are also very instructive, such as the Sant Ferran castle in Figueres, the monastery of Sant Pere de Rhode, and La Ciutadella de Roses. In Cadaquès, the Dalí museum is worth a visit as well as Port Lligat, the exploration of the megalithic complex or the ruins of Empuries. Near Cala Montjoi, the Albera nature park is of great ecological interest. Also in Albera, visit a turtle farm. The Aiguamolls Natural Park has marshes that cover 4,000 hectares and is a magnificent refuge for migratory birds.
On-site, many activities are included in your stay such as paddle tennis, squash, mini-golf as well as volleyball, on the beach. The floodlit tennis courts are the place to be at the end of the day. The fitness room will help you get back into shape as soon as you arrive. A petanque court allows you to challenge yourself without getting too tired! Explore the beautiful coastline by kayak or stand-up paddle. As the Cap de Creus nature park is a unique environment, you can go mountain biking or walk on the hiking trails. The mini-club welcomes children for a nice meeting with Joi, the mascot of Cala Montjoi, a fox who loves to play jokes.
