Dive trip L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, Spain

Snorkelling Free Diving and Diving in L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, Spain

Looking for a change of scenery in Spain? With family or friends, head for L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, not far from Tarragona. Beautiful beaches of fine sand and translucent turquoise water await you. Relax on the 2 km-long Arenal beach or the 700 m-long Punta del Riu beach near the Hospitalet de l'Infant marina. For naturist fans, head for the 1.6 km-long Torn beach. This white ribbon is lost in the middle of the dunes, in the heart of the Les Rojales nature reserve

Opposite Arenal beach, at the Costa Daurada water sports centre, you can try your hand at activities such as paddle boarding, sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing... And don't forget to try your hand at scuba diving in L'Hospitalet de l'Infant! You can also take a diving course at Glubs Diving. Experienced divers prefer to take the boat out to explore interesting sites such as the Dragonera wreck, Casa dels lladres and, of course, the ever-popular Playa Fósil. Oh yes, the best time of year is between May and October... In short, another great idea for a weekend with Nautic Parc and Clubs Diving!

Dive sites

Having sunk in 1994, the 65-metre-long cargo ship Dragonera lies on a sandy, muddy seabed at a depth of between 14 and 24 metres. Open Water Diver level divers can access the deck at 19 metres and the bridge at 14 and 16 metres. More experienced divers can access the interior of the wreck. The superstructures are covered in coral and sponges and are home to conger eels and groupers. Macro photographers will love Freu de terra I and II. Accessible from a boat, you can dive at depths of between 17 m and 19 m, amidst rubble, rocks and posidonia. Here you can discover typical Mediterranean species, including schools of bream and corvina. Peñal is considered one of the most beautiful dives in the Tarragona region, provided the weather conditions are good. However, you'll need to be buoyant throughout your underwater journey, between 25 and 28 metres, between rocky bars, continuously. This is because the seabed is made up of sediment and not pebbles, as in the other dive sites in the area.

This mud can easily be lifted as you pass through. The Casa dels lladres diving site is well worth a visit, at a depth of between 26 and 28 metres. Imagine a shoal around 50 m long, with different gradients, over sand and rocks. Castagnoles flit about. Several dives to a depth of 17-19 metres are not enough to cover the whole area at Playa Fósil. Why the name Fossil Beach? Oral tradition has it that this is the site of a village that was submerged when earth movements caused the walls to crack. And don't forget to admire a millstone buried in the sand, rocks and seagrass! Playa Fósil is the most popular dive in the Tarragona region. Measuring between 30 and 90 metres long and 10 metres wide, these rocky bars are interspersed with sandy drop-offs 20 metres deep. Go underwater at El Poblat. At a depth of 20 m, you'll discover a rocky bar 200 m long or more, and fairly narrow, from 1.5 m to 5 m wide. This shoal just keeps getting longer and longer in the mud! Lacerated by a multitude of crevasses, this bar is home to many conger eels. Make sure you swim carefully so as not to lift the mud as you pass.... As its name suggests, Biotop is a protected area at a depth of between 27 and 31 metres. These facilities have been built in the middle of rocky formations to prevent fishing boats such as trawlers from dragging in the shallows.

Because the rocks are so far apart, you need a good sense of direction! If not, use your compass on days when visibility is poor. It's pretty easy to get lost here! In season, the Escalon dive site is really very interesting. Go between 21 and 26 metres to spot the macro fauna. You're sure to come across some great encounters, like the emblematic Saint-Pierre. Tip: the dive starts where the seagrass disappears from the seabed. Between 38 and 42 metres, the interest of the Barca d'en Robert wreck, lying on sand and mud, varies with the day's visibility. Don't dream, visibility is generally poor. Nevertheless, there are also good days to explore these remains of a 25-metre long trawler. Come to your senses, for it is the tomb of its entire crew, all fishermen. Life goes on here with the presence of large conger eels - sometimes even lobsters. If you're lucky, you'll find sunfish waiting for you....
