The Wakatobi Islands are located at the southeastern tip of Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. It is a small archipelago consisting of four islands called Wangi Wangi, Kaledupa, Tomea, and Binongko. The name Wakatobi is an acronym of the names of these four islands. A diving trip to Wakatobi in Indonesia allows you to immerse yourself in a protected marine national park, created in 2003 and encompassing 600 km2 of as yet unexplored reefs.

It is one of the most beautiful underwater sanctuaries in the world in terms of biodiversity. The currents between the Indian and Pacific Oceans converge in the archipelago, bringing nutrients that the fauna feeds on. On the sites, they are of variable intensity depending on the tides. More than 1000 species of fish and 750 species of coral have been identified here. Nevertheless, it is not a destination for lovers of large pelagics. When you arrive in Bali, you are welcomed at the exit of the plane, to get to the private jet of the Dive Resort.

It has built its private airstrip on the island. Plane transfers are only available on certain days of the week. The flight lasts about 2h30. On the island, there is no means of transportation as there are no roads or cars. The only way to arrive and leave the island is by plane and possibly by safari boat. The best season for scuba diving vacations in Wakatobi is from March to December.

Diving in Wakatobi allows you to discover wonderful biodiversity concentrating several species of pygmy seahorses, leafy ghost pipefish, frogfish, stonefish, puppet fish (Opistognathus aurifrons), ribbon moray eels, crocodile fish, ghost pipefish. At nightfall, we even catch mandarin fish on the detrital bottom. Expect to see medium-sized pelagic fish such as tuna and barracuda in schools. Prehistory comes into your view with flocks of humpback parrots scraping coral with their teeth. In sandy areas, stingrays burrow in. Schools of dolphins can be seen while sailing the dive boat.

Around the only resort here in Wakatobi, there are about 43 dive sites accessible to all divers and consisting of drop-offs, dry, caves, coral gardens, pinnacles with a profusion of table Acropora hard corals, deer and elk horns and purple, pink, lavender-blue, orange and red gorgonians, and blue sponges. Cornucopia is a great drop-off covered with black coral trees and giant gorgonians with the passage of reef sharks and Mobula rays in a squadron.
